How do I transfer a domain in?

To transfer a domain in to KT Hosting, the first step is to submit an order through the customer portal. The next steps depend on which type of domain you would like to transfer in:

For .uk (Nominet) domains

  • When transferring a Nominet domain in to KT Hosting, you must contact your current registrar and request that the IPS Tag of your domain is changed to KTHOSTING. This will transfer the domain to us and usually completes within the hour.
  • If you have a hosting package with KT Hosting or would like to take advantage of our services, each domain name must be transferred to our nameservers. This must be requested once the domain has been transferred or the nameservers will remain the same.
  • .uk (Nominet) transfers in are free of charge, as the renewal date is not affected.

For all other domains (TLD’s, ccTLD’s and gTLD’s)

  • To transfer all other domains into KT Hosting, you must contact your current registrar and request for the domain to be unlocked and an authorisation code sent to you. It is advisable to request this before placing an order and to have the authorisation code ready when placing the order. This will ensure that the transfer is initiated straight away.
  • Please ensure that you have access to the administrative contact email address, as an initial authorisation email will be sent to this address when the transfer is requested. Some registries will lock the domain for a number of days if the admin contact details are updated. Please check with your current provider before placing an order.
  • Once the admin contact has accepted the transfer, an email will be sent to the losing registrar to approve or decline the transfer. If the losing registrar does not reply, the transfer will automatically got through in 5 days. If the losing registrar declines the transfer, we will contact you to advise and you must contact the registrar to find out why.
  • When a domain is transferred, an additional year is added on to the renewal date (except for Nominet domains). For this reason, we charge the price of a one year renewal for every domain transferred in to us.
