What is TTL?

TTL stands for Time To Live and controls when any changes that you make to your DNS will take effect. Every record in your DNS zone file has a TTL value, which is always shown in seconds. The default TTL on our servers is 86400 seconds (24 hours). This tells servers across the internet to check for updates to your DNS every 24 hours. When adding or editing a record within your DNS, specific TTL values can be applied for that record. Lowering the default TTL will ensure that any subsequent changes will take effect within the new TTL timeframe. The lowest TTL that we allow is 300 seconds (5 minutes).
